| The Department of Comparative Literature and Foreign Languages works closely with the program in Film and Visual Culture, chaired by Toby Miller. Professors Bloom, Doran, Lam, Long, Shapiro and Waller, who teach European (French, German, Italian) and Asian (Chinese, Vietnamese) cinema, are members of the FVC faculty. Faculty areas of specialization include French film of the banlieue (Shapiro); the French New Wave, France and Asia (Bloom); German New Cinema, film theory (Doran); Dante and cinema, Italian neorealism (Waller). Professors Foster and Long have expertise in Japanese film (including anime) while Professor Ye teaches courses on Chinese cinema. Comparative Literature graduate students are encouraged to work in film and media studies. |
